Krakow - the third largest city and cultural capital of Poland - is a colossus of art and architecture and an impressive backdrop for a Christmas market. Ideally located on Rynek Glowny, one of the largest medieval town squares in Europe, the Krakow Christmas market provides many colourful stalls selling food and hot wine, festive gifts and traditional decorations.
The square is dominated by the Cloth Hall (Sukiennice), which continues to house traditional arts and souvenir shops all year round and there are numerous bustling cafés and restaurants dotted around the square. But also on display during the advent period will be the dozens of colourful nativity scenes and cribs made by local artists and amateurs for the annual crib exhibition.
A thousand years old, Krakow is picturesquely perched on the Vistula river and is testament to the creativity of first the middle ages, and then the Renaissance and baroque periods. It is a city of Gothic churches, baroque palaces and beautiful tenement houses. Our visit begins with a guided information transfer to the market. |
