The Vienna Christmas market takes place in front of the magnificent Rathaus - city hall - which forms a stunning and majestic backdrop to one of the most attractive European Christmas markets.
Here the magic of Advent is wonderfully alive as you browse among well over 100 large wooden stalls, selling a huge selection of delicious foodstuffs, decorations, nativity figures and festive gifts, with a wealth of opportunities to buy special Christmas presents.
With a romantic location at the heart of one of the world’s great cities, Vienna’s long-established Christkindlmarkt is a family oriented affair with plenty of enchanting diversions to entertain the children, while, for grown-ups, the market’s many stalls provide some very tempting shopping opportunities. For four centuries Vienna was the capital of the mighty Austrian Empire and the glory and grandeur of those days are reflected in the magnificent buildings and imposing boulevards of the old city. The Spanish Riding School and the huge tradition of classical music help make Vienna a place of true culture and romance. Our visit begins with a guided information transfer to the market, through the city that is fabled for having been home to composers like Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert.
